If this is your first time doing a Family Devotion-WELCOME! Thank you for leading and investing in the spiritual growth of your family. Though you may feel intimidated, let me reassure you that this journey is one that is well worth a few awkward moments or false starts. Just keep going! Here is a simple how-to-guide to help you get started:
-Gather everyone together & put all distractions away.
-Before reading, ask someone in the family to lead everyone in a simple prayer (Lord, open our hearts and eyes to see you clearly in Your Word. Amen) Something like that will be perfect. God isn’t looking for perfection, just honest and open hearts.
-As the head of the household, lead in reading the Scripture and the devotional.
-After reading, answer the questions that are at the end of the devotional. For kids, you may have to help them with prompts, such as “was it scary when David faced Goliath?” This will become more natural the more you do it.
-As questions are answered and no one has anything else to add, end this special family time praying over each member of your family. The prayer in Ephesians 1 is a beautiful example you can use!
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
