When life is seemingly falling apart, where do you stand?
When the storm comes and the floods begin, where is your foundation?
Where is your hope, when circumstances seem hopeless?
24 “Everyone, then, who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!”
Matthew 7:24-27 (NRSV)
There is a firm foundation. Robert Critchley wrote it this way in the hymn, “The Solid Rock”:
My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus' name On Christ the solid rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand
Be encouraged today. There is a place to stand. There is a solid rock that remains for you to trust, even when all the things or persons on whom you have thought you could depend fail. There is a firm foundation.
We introduced this song, this past Sunday, by Cody Carnes. It is about that firm foundation, Jesus Christ, who will never fail us. Give it a listen. Sing along. More than that, allow the truth to take root in your heart and grow. He won’t fail. He won’t.
