Happy Wednesday!
Have you ever been walking, minding your own business, and noticed something…that thing that catches your eye, looks out of place, or just seems unbelievable?
When I was a youngster, I was blazing a trail…actually, I was following a path into the woods behind our vacation spot and noticed a piece of quartz that looked unusual. It just sort of jumped out at me, laying there among the pine needles and the sand. So, I bent down and picked it up, then realizing that it was an arrowhead. That inspired me to always be on the lookout, because they can be found literally everywhere in the southeast.
Writing this has just jogged my memory about the time a child enrolled in Freedom Christian Academy was playing on the slope between our church building and the school, which is now our youth house, and pulled a beautiful arrowhead out of the red clay there. He was more than a little excited. (I spent the next few weeks poking around there to find anything, without success, lol)
This morning, this post came across my newsfeed on Facebook.
These accidental findings are not really that uncommon, but that does not make them any less intriguing or delightful.
My point on this fine Wednesday is this:
Keep your eyes open, your heart sensitive, and your ears attuned as you move through life. You never know when you may stumble upon some treasure buried in the sands of time. These “treasures” often come in the form of “accidental” meetings with those in need of encouragement, in need of a smile, or in need of a hug. They may come in the form of an unexpected phone call, text, or e-mail. They may even come through a passing thought of a friend or family member who is in the midst of a crisis that needs our intercession in prayer. They may come in the form of that perfect scripture that has lodged in our heart and mind, to be remembered in our time of need. I think you get the picture…these treasureshowever, do not come by accident.
17 Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
James 1:17 (NRSV)
Do you have an “unexpected treasure” story? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
